Independence 

The photographs below explore the extent to which disabled fans are able to experience matchday with choice and control. They explained that independence can be shaped by ticketing, travel, stadium layout, toilet provision, access to food and drink, and the availability of clear information.
For some fans, good accessibility allowed them to attend with less reliance on others and take part in football culture on their own terms, for instance by being able to reach their seat in the main stand, thanks to the stadium having a handrail: “it gives me pretty good independence because I can do that going up and down myself.”
For others, inaccessible facilities or unavailable information increased their dependence on carers, family members, stewards or other supporters. This theme illustrates that the fewer barriers there are, the more independent disabled fans feel.
